Description

Unlike any other tool of its kind, Autodesk Fusion 360 connects CAD, CAM, and CAE in a single cloud-based platform that works on both Mac and PC. In this course, you will explore the basics of designing for manufacture, while designing a Formula SAE steering wheel. You’ll design, validate through simulation, render, animate, program a CNC machine, and create a detailed drawing–all while learning industry skills that span the entire digital manufacturing process. Learn how Fusion 360 connects the entire product development process by using the first 3D design, manufacturing, and engineering tool of its kind.

This three-hour course explores design, simulation, and programming for manufacturing. It prepares you with industry skills that span the entire digital manufacturing process. Take the first steps in learning the essentials.

This course is designed for beginning to intermediate students who are new to CAD, or those who are familiar with CAD products such as Tinkercad and Solidworks, but are new to Fusion 360.

After completing this course, students will:

  • Explain and demonstrate Fusion 360 foundational concepts.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Fusion 360’s collaboration features for sharing, calendar scheduling, and discussion.
  • Describe and apply advanced design based workflows for design, engineering and manufacturing using Fusion 360 software.
  • Utilize Fusion 360 cloud based collaboration features for project sharing and design review.

Contents and Overview

This course consists of 15 sections that include lectures and hands-on exercises introducing Fusion 360’s cloud-based collaboration features for design, engineering, and manufacturing workflows. Each lesson includes comprehensive lecture presentations and project exercises that include step-by-step video instruction, as well as checkpoint quizzes, and a final course assessment.

The Fusion 360: Introduction to CAD, CAM, and CAE course starts with lectures that introduce sketching, modeling, and sculpting workflows that set the foundation for much of your subsequent work in Fusion 360.

Next, you’re introduced to how sheet metal material can be introduced into your design process in Fusion 360. Never before has it been possible to design sheet metal parts and take them directly into the CAM workspace to generate toolpaths for cutting flat patterns, all in one workflow. You use Fusion 360 to create sheet metal parts based on default and custom rules through the use of sketching and feature tools.

At the end of the course, you’ll learn how Fusion 360 integrates the CAM process into its features. CAM for Fusion 360 includes CNC programming, simulation, and design. In addition, the collaboration and project management tools are available as you work through the design process. You will also learn how to prepare your designs for 3D printing and export to a design STL.

After you’ve completed the series of lectures, you can take part in practice exercises and challenge assignments that put the skills you’ve learned into practice. Upon completing this course, you will have obtained knowledge and skills in Fusion 360 CAD/CAM/CAE to best manage your project’s design process and assets.

Who is the target audience?

  • Beginning to intermediate students who are interested in learning CAD for designing, mechanical engineering, or machining.
  • All levels of students who are familiar with CAD through products like Tinkercad or Solidworks, but are new to Fusion 360.
